1. The aim of the Society is to advance the understanding and the application of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) in the civil engineering infrastructure, in the service of the engineering profession and society.

2. The objectives of the Society are to:

(a) provide a focal point for international sharing of knowledge and experience;

(b) promote collaboration to maximize the benefit of the international research and development effort;

(c) foster international harmonization of design and application standards;

(d) further the acceptance of SHM to establish performance-based codes by the engineering community and beyond as a major performance measuring device;

(e) advocate further innovations, particularly through the interfacing of FRP composites with other technologies such as intelligent sensing;

(f) encourage owners to build Intelligent Infrastructures (II) that last more than 100 years;

(g) show the benefits of SHM for strengthening, repair, maintenance and to establish the life cycle cost analysis of innovative structures; and

(h) promote innovative structural design solutions with a clear focus to durable and robust structures.

3. The Society is a non-profit organization and does not pursue any commercial objectives.
