New Executive Committee Announced

ISHMII is pleased to announce the election of three vice presidents who will form the Executive Committee, the advisory group of Council members assisting the president with the oversight of functional organizational tasks.

The new Executive Committee members are Dr. Jinping Ou (People’s Republic of China), Dr. Wolfgang Habel (Germany) and Dr. James Brownjohn (United Kingdom).

In the May Membership Notes message, President Farhad Ansari told members that “all of their responsibilities are highly collaborative.”

“One task of the Vice President of Member Education is to assure that the knowledge that we develop is shared through workshops and conferences, The Monitor and the Journal of Civil Structural Health Monitoring. Dr. Jinping Ou, President of Dalian University of Technology and a distinguished member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, will undertake that role.

As Vice President of Finance, Dr. Wolfgang R. Habel will provide guidance and oversight for the financial stability of ISHMII and the Journal of Civil Structural Health Monitoring. At the time of the election, Dr. Habel was already a member of the Executive Committee.

Vice President of Membership and Organizational Growth, Dr. James Brownjohn will guide the organization through our next stage of membership expansion, helping to make ISHMII membership well-recognized among academics and practitioners.

Aftab Mufti Medal Inaugurated: Urs Meier and Jan-Ming Ko Honored

Dr. Aftab Mufti, first president of ISHMII, was honored at SHMII-5 as ISHMII inaugurated the Aftab Mufti Medal for high achievement and innovation in civil structural health monitoring. Dr. Mufti is held in high esteem for his lifetime of influential engineering accomplishments and dedication to the development of structural health monitoring as a recognized field within civil engineering.

His international leadership and vision has shaped the field globally. With colleagues in the Americas, Europe and Asia, Dr. Mufti co-founded ISHMII and became its first president. The initial recipients of the Aftab Mufti Medal are ISHMII co-founders Dr. Urs Meier, past-Deputy Director General of EMPA, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research, and Dr. Jan-Ming Ko, an Emeritus Professor of Structural Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
